Project Purpose: design a dorm for college students here on Drury University’s campus. At the time, Drury was beginning to think about building another dorm. The program called for a certain number of inhabitants while including activities we found appropriate for a dorm.
The site included a historical house that had to be kept and included in the design. My focus was mainly on the circulation in and around the building and how that worked with the activities provided.
This was the first project where we were able to design and construct a building while worrying about the site. My concept included a datum line which is the main hallway with areas of activity coming from either side. And at the end of the main hallway are two more datum lines which serve as the dorm rooms for the students. Finally, paths were placed along with benches to connect the site to the inside spaces.
